“Guardian Safe Co.” is a Distributor of
high quality safes and safe products. The majority of our products are
manufactured in Asia, South America, and South Africa. Dependent on your needs
and time constraints, we also build custom safes and custom interiors either by
one of our many manufacturers or right here in Canada.

About The
Owner
Originally a Business Systems Analyst in
the mid 90’s, Paul O’Hara soon jumped into the rapidly growing private ATM
industry where he ran and operated companies in Canada and the United Kingdom.
His success resulted in his taking the reins of a then suffering Canadian safe
manufacturer. As G.M., Paul turned the company around and it became one of North
Americas major players in the safe industry.
It was during this time through market research and day to day business
that Paul witnessed an explosion of Asian products hitting the market. It was
quickly recognized that North American manufacturers would soon find it very
difficult to compete in cost and quality. In 2005, Paul ventured into the safe
business on his own: “Guardian Safe Co.”

Safety Rating Guide
FIRE SAFES: Safes that protect against fire
are usually made of thin steel sheets (or other components), molded together to
form an inner and an outer shell. These units are filled with a light weight
insulating material that is quite expensive. This material keeps the temperature
inside the safe below a specified temperature for a fixed period of time. Fire
safes today are usually “one or two-hour rated” safes.
There are several testing agencies throughout the world that certify fire safes.
Tests vary somewhat from agency to agency but commonly include a time
temperature test, explosion test, and an impact or drop test.
FIRE/BURGLARY SAFES: Safes that protect against Fire and Burglary are the best
value for your dollar. They are normally less expensive than a plain Fire Safe
as an inexpensive aggregate concrete mixture is used rather an expensive fire
retardant material.
BURGLARY SAFES: Burglary safes are usually
made of solid steel plate or a combination of solid steel and composite fill
material (concrete). These safes are categorized based on the level of
protection delivered and the testing endured. Four classes, B-Rate, C-Rate,
TL-15, and TL-30 are outlined below.
B-RATE SAFES: This is a catch-all rating for essentially any box with a lock on
it. The safe industry has an unwritten standard of 1⁄4 inch body, 1⁄2 inch door.
No tests are required to designate this rating. When buying a B-rate safe be
aware of lock mechanisms, hard plates, and relocks.
C-RATE SAFES: Defined as a 1⁄2 inch thick steel box with a 1-inch thick door and
a lock. No tests are required to designate this rating. Be aware of the lock
work, relocks and other features when making your decision.
TL-15: Safes given a U.L. TL-15 rating have all passed standardized tests
defined in UL Standard 687. This safety rating requires that the safe be
constructed of 1-inch solid steel or equivalent. The UL label validates that the
safe has been tested for a NET working time of 15 minutes. There are over fifty
ways to gain entrance into the safe. Usually only 2 or 3 approaches are used
based on what burglars know about the product (and trust me they know a lot).
TL-30: These tests are essentially the same
as the TL-15 tests except for the net working time. The UL label identifies the
safe has been tested for a NET working time of 30 minutes.
Warranty
Guardian Safe Co. provides a 5 year warranty
on all parts and a 1 year warranty on all locks, including service. Some
products come with an additional warranty depending on the product.
